What is Air Pruning?
Air Pruning refers to a natural root trimming process, essentially the plant’s “self-pruning” mechanism. Plants grown with air pruning develop significantly healthier root systems compared to those in traditional closed-wall containers.
In Oxygena™ pots, air pruning prevents root circling along container walls – a phenomenon where overgrown roots slowly and inefficiently transport nutrients to the plant’s upper parts, essentially becoming self-serving.
This pruning occurs naturally when root tips contact air. As roots grow toward Oxygena™‘s side vents, their tips dry upon air exposure, creating a natural seal. The plant responds by producing new lateral roots within the substrate, rapidly developing a dense, fibrous network that efficiently delivers nutrients to the plant.
